CHAPTER THREE

When they returned from their long night the older ones left for their homes and Soldier, Dillon and the boys living at Scarcity now went in, the little ones nearly dragging. Dillon told them to put what was left of their night’s gatherings on the table and they’d take care of it in the morning. It was time for bed now.

He looked at Soldier and said, “I think you should tuck our little soldier boys in tonight.” Soldier nodded.

“Let’s go, soldiers, it’s time for bed. I’ll help you get ready. Who wants a ride up to their room?” he asked.

Jaja walked to him, raising his arms, and Soldier picked him up in one arm. Jojo took his other hand to walk beside him. Dillon got goodnight kisses on his cheeks from them and watched as they all headed out of the kitchen.

“Lor-dee, what a day,” he muttered to himself. He went around, closing up the house, the job that Soldier usually did. He really felt like the boys needed this time with Soldier, reassurance that he was fine with what they’d done and that they were loved.

When he got upstairs, he noted that the lights were already off in Niko, Kade, and Mike’s rooms, but Soldier was just coming out of the twins’. He saw his lover wipe his eyes and went to him.

Soldier ducked his head, but then looked at Dillon, not hiding his emotions.

“God, Dillon, I love those two so much.”

Dillon nodded at him, smiling. That wasn’t news to anyone.

“They want to say goodnight to you again. I’ll close up…”

“Already done. I’ll be in our room in a few minutes. Maybe you could have the shower running for us,” Dillon said.

“Oh, I could. I so could,” Soldier said, kissing him quickly.

“You’re kissing again, on Halloween.” They heard the words from Jaja and laughed.

Soldier turned back to the room and said, “Who said you couldn’t kiss on Halloween?”

“I don’t know,” Jaja said, thinking about it and then giggling.

“You’re silly and you need to go to sleep,” Soldier said, leaving so Dillon could take his turn tucking them in.

“Okay, Soldier said you wanted to see me. What’s up, guys?”

Jojo spoke this time. “We just wanted to thank you for helping us today. I think he liked our surprise, don’t you?” Jojo was very serious and Dillon knew his answer had to be, too.

“Yes, I think he was very happy that you care enough about him to want to be like him and I love you all for thinking of it, but if you ever do that again, I’m going to have to punish you.” He was joking, sort of.

“We won’t do it again, Dillon. We learned our lesson. We’ll come to you with the big things.” Dillon hugged them both and as he was leaving the room he heard Jaja say, “I’m still glad we did it. Soldier liked it.”

“Yeah,” Jojo agreed.

Dillon sighed deeply as he stepped into their bedroom and closed the door. He could hear the shower running and Soldier, his beautiful naked man, stood in the doorway to the bathroom.
